Cataract Surgery
At Maple Grove Eye Care, we specialize in cataract surgery, a safe and effective procedure designed to restore clarity and quality of vision. Cataracts, a common condition often associated with aging, occur when the natural lens of the eye becomes clouded, impairing vision.

What is Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the removal of the clouded lens and its replacement with a clear, artificial lens known as an intraocular lens (IOL). This outpatient procedure typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes per eye and is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring comfort and minimal discomfort.
Procedure
-
Preparation: Your eye is numbed with drops or an injection, and the area around your eye is cleaned.
-
Incision: A small incision is made in the cornea to access the clouded lens.
-
Lens Removal: The cataract is gently fragmented using ultrasound technology (phacoemulsification) and removed.
-
IOL Implantation: A foldable IOL is inserted through the same incision and positioned into the lens capsule.
-
Completion: The incision is often self-sealing, requiring no stitches, and the eye is protected with a shield post-surgery.

Recovery and Results
Post-surgery, you may notice an immediate improvement in your vision, though it's normal for it to stabilize over a few days. You'll receive instructions on eye drops and care to ensure optimal healing. Most patients return to their usual activities within a day or two, with a follow-up appointment to monitor progress.
